LA LEONA & NOCTURNAL TURTLE SEARCH

Experience the perfect combination of nature and adventure in our activity in Corcovado! We will go wildlife spotting and live the thrill of a night hike to observe the nesting of sea turtles and sleeping in a cabin by the coast!

The adventure begins early, departing from Puerto Jiménez at 5:30 am towards Carate, where we will arrive around 8:00 am. Our tour guide will provide a brief introduction to the activity before we embark on a secondary forest trail heading towards La Leona station. Along the way, we will stop at our lodging to leave any unnecessary luggage and walk more lightly and comfortably.

Upon arriving at La Leona station in Corcovado, we will register and take a break to enjoy a light snack. Then, we will continue our hike on trails surrounded by an impressive coastal landscape with brown sand and turquoise waters. We will explore the ruins of the old local cemetery and cross the Madrigal river, where we might spot tapirs and other wildlife. The journey will take us to La Hedionda creek, where we will pause to have lunch by the sea before returning to the lodge.

After dinner, our guide will take us with flashlights to explore Carate beach in search of nesting sea turtles. If we are lucky, we will see species such as the olive ridley, green, black, loggerhead, and hawksbill turtles. We will also observe other nocturnal species such as bats, insects, snakes, owls, and nightjars. We will spend the night at the lodge and, in the morning, after breakfast, we will take transportation back to Puerto Jiménez at 8:30 am, arriving at 10:30 am.
